General Custom Installation Instructions (applies to all models shown)
  • Remove rear seat from cycle.
  • Remove any seat brackets.
  • Remove all staples holding on seat cover.
  • Remove seat cover and foam, being careful not to tear cover or foam.

1. Install our Custom Backrest Bar.  Lay in place  as shown in picture 1 or on next page for your model cycle.  Mark through holes in bar and drill 9/32" holes in seat base to line up with the holes in Custom Bar.  Install bolts through lock washer, flat washer, seat base and screw tightly into Custom Bar.

2. Mark center of foam in appropriate area,   by lining up foam along side seat base with bar now installed.  Cut slit in foam about 1 1/2" wide, all the way through the bottom of foam, as shown in picture 2.

3. Slide foam over installed bar, as shown in picture 3.  Tube should be close to level with the surface of foam.

4. Install cover completely.  Do not cut slit in cover till completely installed.
Feel for tube, under cover, as shown in picture 4.

5. Carefully make a slit to allow it to come through the now installed cover, as shown in picture 5.  "DO NOT CUT ANY THREADS WHERE COVER IS SEWN TOGETHER."  Cut no wider than necessary.

6. Bend and shape  the Peel and Stick Boot and install, as shown in picture 6.

  • Install backrest to tube with bolt provided.
  • Install seats, adjust backrest for comfort,  and "Take a Ride!"

Tools Needed: Whatever you use to take off the rear seat
A tool such as a slotted screwdriver to remove the staples
Electric or air stapler with 1/4" staples
                             7/16" wrench
                             Drill with 9/32" bit
                             Marking pencil
                             Long serrated knife
                             Pair of scissors
The following are pictures of Utopia's Custom Driver Backrests Bars installed on the particular seat bases.  The Shadow 1100 A.C.E (above), 750 A.C.E., and the Aero all require flat washer spacers at one or two of the bolts, between the bar and the seat base, where the bar does not rest flush against the seat base.  Stack as many  flat washers as needed to fill the area.  This allows you to tighten without putting undue stress on seat base at bolt area.  Just install in the same position as in pictures, being sure to center, and bar will fit correctly. Follow the rest of the instructions above.
